Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Essay -- Papers Robe
Explanation of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost When perusing ââ¬Å"The Road Not Taken,â⬠by Robert Frost, I found that it was close to home, particularly to the creator. The way that it was written in first individual structure helped me to infer that it was presumably about the writer. I think the thinking behind his composition of this sonnet was on the grounds that throughout everyday life, you have numerous snags to survive and numerous options and choices to make, which opens a way that drives the path to your future. Since those things identify with Frost, I think it inspired him to compose this sonnet on an individual premise, similar to a short personal history on his life. It persuaded him since he could then educate others concerning his life and offer guidance and direction to the individuals that read his verse. ââ¬Å"The Road Not Takenâ⬠essentially discusses the numerous hindrances throughout everyday life, the decisions and choices that you need to make, and how the things you pick influences everything in your life and in your future. Ice likewise tells how he picked a way or a street, that despite the fact that was odd or not quite the same as everybody elseââ¬â¢s, he went on with his impulses and concluded that it was the correct decision. He tells how one single choice in life can make enormous or radical contrasts being either positive or negative. This was communicated when he said ââ¬Å"Two streets separated in a wood, and I - I took the one less went by, And that has made all the difference.â⬠I found that all through this sonnet there was a lot of imagery inside it. Distinguishing that it was written in first individual structure demonstrated that this sonnet identifies with the writer on an individual premise, and that it was presumably composed to represent his life. Be that as it may, when discussing peopleââ¬â¢s lives, you can infer that peopleââ¬â¢s lives are by and large and independently very diffe... ...om, a split street. Never truly realizing the right street to take the individual picks one way or street in the wake of investigating the other. He is certain and goes on from gut impulses and picks a way proceeding onward with a solid will and a great deal certainty, deserting the other street immaculate. This sonnet identifies with me from multiple points of view on the grounds that in my life, I was offered numerous alternatives to browse and numerous streets to take. Since itââ¬â¢s my life and my choices to settle on, I never lamented a choice I made, I simply take a gander at it as, thatââ¬â¢s the manner in which it was intended to be. Without a doubt, the choices werenââ¬â¢t in every case simple to make, yet when you set your attention to it, think, conceptualize, and dissect a little the right way or street as a rule will illuminate and give you direction. Iââ¬â¢m not saying that every one of my choices were right, they where not in the least. Iââ¬â¢m trying to say that when you attempted your best it never stings.

Note to College Freshman The Freshman 15 is Avoidable
Every year, many first year college students worry about the notion that gaining some extra weight is inevitable.à By gaining multiple pounds at a time, students are more susceptible to falling under the category of obesity, are less likely to loose the weight, and naturally decrease labor productivity (Zagorsky 1389).à In order to avoid these negative effects on the lives of young college students, authoritative roles in the college staff need to provide more options to a healthy college lifestyle.à By not only offering, but promoting healthy eating options, exercising regularly, and providing onââ¬âcampus events that allow students to be continuously active.à In 1985, Hovel introduced the thought of the freshman fifteen after a case study on a small group of first year women who gained around ââ¬Å"eight to nine pounds during the first year of collegeâ⬠(Zagorsky 1390).à At first, the freshman fifteen only was heard about on occasion, but in the late 19 90ââ¬â¢s more and more publications started to be released containing information of the weight that was said to be gained in the first year of college (qtd in Zagorsky).à People started to grow confident in the matter, did not ââ¬Å"question or refute the reality of the ââ¬Å"Freshman 15â⬠â⬠(Zagorsky 1390) and came to the realization that it is a real problem that needs to be focused on, in order to prevent future complications.à In the modern day, the freshman fifteen ââ¬Å"has become as much a part of orientation as the campus tourâ⬠(Kwiatkowski 1).à Everyone knows about the problem, but it seems that more and more professors, students, parents, and official faculty members are seeming to accept the freshman fifteen to be exactly what is it coming off to be, inevitable. In college, itââ¬â¢s all about stress and the student.à ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s almost like a rite of passage in college to see how much caffeine and how little sleep you can g etâ⬠(qtd in Kwiatkowski 1).à There are many issues that lead to having a stressful schedule, which eventually leads to irresponsible eating habits, and poor weight management skills.à Many high school students pack their schedules full in order to impress colleges, and when they register for their first year of college they keep the same mindset and still fill up their schedule as if they are still working to impress a long line of judges.à Many students register for a ââ¬Å"full academic course load, plus 10 extracurricularsâ⬠(Kwiatkowski 1), and this puts a huge of amount of stress on the student, which causes them to place healthy eating and exercise low on the scale of importance.à ââ¬Å"Stress is a sizable amount to weight gain, but there are other factorsâ⬠(Kwiatkowski 1) in addition to these. In college, many sweet and tasty drinks and snacks are desirable, not to mention easily available. Alcohol, energy drinks, and coffee are all college go-to drinks that are used in attempt to keep up with the hectic schedule that was mentioned before.à à ââ¬Å"A typical alcoholic beverage can carry up to 300 caloriesâ⬠(Kwiatkowski 1) and ââ¬Å"having one soft drink a day was linked to a 44 percent higher adjusted risk of developing abdominal obesity, high cholesterol and elevated blood pressure, a recent study foundâ⬠(Sansone 198).à Most of those calories found in the tempting beverages sit in the stomachs of students, and do absolutely nothing but allow them to continue gaining pointless pounds.à In order to avoid the binge eating sessions that seem to be overwhelmingly popular with the students, educators should be encouraging students to carry around healthier snacks as opposed to Pop Tarts, donuts, or the thousands of other tempting, sugary, and delicious foods that students who have busy agendas to stay up to date with seem to turn to.à ââ¬Å"Since college is a time for learning, it is an opportun e period to teach young adults about proper nutrition, healthy cooking, optimal portion sizes, and appropriate levels of physical activityâ⬠(Zagorsky 1403). Although young adults in college should have some knowledge of how to properly take care of themselves in attempt to avoid the extra weight, staff members at the colleges ââ¬Å"need to think about how to best reach this groupâ⬠(Zagorsky 1404).à It is important that the leaders and policymakers that the first year college students look up to for guidance are actually providing them with such information to keep them on track with their physical and mental upkeep.à Without this information, students are bound to continue to get caught up in the quick and easy lifestyle, which also happens to be fattening, irresponsible and dangerous to their future health.à Most colleges only host events for their students on important weekends such as visitor days, or spring break festivals.à Because these events are so rarely found on campuses, many students find themselves sitting in the doom rooms either relaxing, studying, or naturally, snacking.à By providing outside activities on a regular basis, and improving cafeteria lunches to offer a healthy option to students, college students are likely to participate in such events, therefore cutting back on unwanted weight as well as wasted time and binge eating.à It is said ââ¬Å"on campus services and media directed at university students focus on helping them (students) avoid the weightâ⬠(Jung, Bray, Ginis 523).à By allowing the students to see that the faculty goes out of their way to provide opportunities for students to continue being active, not only for themselves but to enhance the way the college looks to future students.à Along with colleges providing positive physical events, as well as a solution to binge eating due to boredom, officials should also be promoting walking to class whenever possible.à Just by walk ing a few extra steps throughout the day, students are bound to keep off the calories from the pop tart that they consumed for breakfast earlier that morning.à A lot of schools offer shuttle buses to different buildings, which is nice when the weather is not suitable for walking, but when the weather is nice the shuttle buses could save the gas, therefore pushing students to walk to class.à By doing this, students will get in some exercise and the colleges will benefit from not having to pay a driver, and not have to pay for gas.à Most school officials would argue that the college that they represent does offer physical activity options, as well as healthy eating habit meal plans, but why do students not want to participate in such things?à The options that the colleges offer are simply not appealing.à Not to mention the fact that they are not advertised and pushed by the school officials hard enough for students to care.à By placing a sign outside of the main dining hall stating all of the healthy eating options that are available to students would raise awareness of the options, which puts the idea of a healthier lunch in the minds of the student.à Offering lunches such as salad bars, and special sandwiches of the day, like turkey burgers, and maybe even an organic treat are all ways to encourage young minds to eat healthier to preserve their future health.à It can also go a long way by offering ââ¬Å"water spiked with lemon, lime, or cucumber slicesâ⬠(Sansone 198) instead of plain water in the cafeterias.à By adding variety of tastes to the water students suddenly feel intrigued by this new option, and are therefore more likely to go for the tasty water. Of course by attempting any of the ideas stated before in order to prevent weight gain, money has to be provided by the schools and people in charge.à Just in case it is not enough that ââ¬Å"a substantial number of college students (33.7%) are classified as ove r weight or obeseâ⬠(qtd. in Young, Sturts, Ross 641), there are actually quite a few pros that are handed to the colleges if they were to go to the lengths necessary to keep their students and campuses pro healthy living.à By keeping the obesity rates down on the college campuses, they appeal to high school students, and high school athletes who spend most of their time working out to stay fit to begin with.à Spending the money necessary to provide healthy food options, advertisements, and providing on campus physical activities events will eventually pay off when students begin to pay for and participate in these programs, rather than spending their money elsewhere and on unhealthy and lazy options.à By adding multiple options to students, and allowing students to chose their lifestyles on the campusââ¬â¢ it only improves their chances of wanting to attend the institution.à Having these options not only helps future students, but it also reassures the parents o f the prospective students that their children will have the option to stay fit, and will be given the opportunity to be active on campus, therefore resulting in their children to be keeping out of trouble.à Offering different options to students, you not only lessen their chances of damaging future health choices, but it also increases the chance of the colleges bringing in more students, having an active and appealing campus, and the earning approval of parents.à Colleges have hundreds of students living on campus who are classified as overweight and there is nothing being done about it.à The freshman fifteen is taking over and people are letting it happen.à By providing the funds to promote healthy eating options, activities to keep students from wasting time snacking, and pushing physical activity in college, officials will see that the well being if their students will eventually pay off for the school itself.à Counselors and people in charger should be enfor cing this information to their students to make it known to them that they need to be preventing the so called inevitable freshman fifteen because with small measures, and big movements, it is more than possible.

Soil Pollution Harming Chemicals Used in Farming Essay
The country side: where there are trailing meadows of green grass, birds singing the dayââ¬â¢s melody, children either are heading to the mill pond to fish or going to play in endless fields of dirt. This life seems simple and maybe even perfect. Down the back roads, many farms fill up the country side. Farming is a part of the importance of evolution. Humans went from not just hunting and gathering but making their own food to feed themselves and others too. This soon led into food production. Humans across the globe took this part of history and made production essential to life. There is a problem though, it is called soil pollution. Soil pollution is when either a natural or chemical product is put into the soil and makes itâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Feeding is the first task that needs to be done. Depending on the species of animal, number of head, and what it eats machinery may be needed to help distribute the food. After the animals are fed they are released t o their pastures for the day, if not out already. Then the stalls, paddocks, and or barns are cleaned. Manure, straw, and shavings are cleaned out. This biological material is normally stored in a section on the farm made specifically for this bio material. When the cleaning is all done and depending on the season, farmers may go out to the fields until the day is done. They are planting, spreading fertilizers and pesticides, tilling, spreading manure, harvesting, or baling hay and straw. All of this is done by special farming machinery. Not too much of this is done by horse or manual labor. When the day is done in the fields they trail back to the barns, feed the animals, and let them in for the night. The farmer then lies down for the night until they rise again to do it all over the next day. Even though farmers across the globe may be feeding the population they are contributing to soil pollution. Planting and harvesting are very important in our life style today. Does Social Media Cause Psychological Problems free essay sample
Anybody who has access to this social media website can reveal news of engagements and breakups, job gains and losses, or even news of life and death; its easy to become overwhelmed especially when you need to keep up with friends and families from a distance or in a different geographical location. Social media comes in many forms including blogs and micro-blogs, forums and message boards, social networks, wikis, virtual worlds, social bookmarking, tagging and news, writing communities, digital storytelling and scrapbooking, and data, content, image and video sharing, podcast portals, and collective intelligence. All of these forms makes majority of individuals keep up with technology and be a part of the information hi-way. Since social media website becomes part of the majority of individualââ¬â¢s life, there is an enormous amount of studies that has been made to identify the benefit of utilizing social media. An example of this study is the one made by Maurizio Mauri, Ph. D. , Pietro Cipresso, Ph. D. , Anna Balgera, M. A. Marco Villamira, Ph. D. , M. D. , and Giuseppe Riva, Ph. D. and made an article titled ââ¬Å"Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networkingâ⬠and in the article it stated that the use of social media website can have a positive and negative effect on the individual; however, the increasing use of social media website reveal that people continue to use this because they have a positive experience when they use them. A study made by Researcher Jeffrey Hancock at Cornell University revealed that one positive effect of using a social media website is the boost of self esteem since majority of people choose what they reveal about themselves and filter anything that might reflect badly on a social media websites, feedbacks from friends and family posted publicly on peoples profiles tends to be overwhelmingly positive which can help boost oneââ¬â¢s self-esteem. According to Jeffrey Hancock, Unlike a mirror, which reminds us of who we really are and may have a negative effect on self-esteem if that image does not match with our ideal, social media website can show a positive version of ourselves. Since both studies showed a positive effect of using social media websites, one may ask about the other side of it. What about those studies that have been made to show the negative effect of using social media website? The Australian Psychology Society created a survey and according to their findings, twenty eight percent of the participants experienced negative effects that can lead to psychological problems. These participants were asked to provide further information about the negative experience and for the most correspondents revealed that unwanted contact or people posting inappropriate or upsetting information online and specified having online bullying and provided examples such as abusive messages and harassment that can soon lead to low esteem. This kind of negative experience from social media website can be compared to what happened to Megan Meier, a thirteen years old resident of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri who ended her own life by hanging herself inside her room that was later investigated that it was a result of cyber bullying. There is also another cause of low self esteem that does not involve abusive messages and harassments like what was mentioned earlier and this is comparing oneââ¬â¢s self to another. As what Jeffrey Hancock at Cornell University mentioned earlier that most people reveal only the good side of themselves or their life to boost their self esteem, this gives the opportunity for other people to compare their lives with other people who have more fun and lead more exciting lives. Since social media give people opportunity to post pictures and comments about their lives like vacations, perfect children, family outings, their promotions at work, how their love life, how they are always eating fabulous meals and busy social lives, other people see this as a comparison to their own life and develop frustrations and look at their life as imperfect. Comparing with other people is a natural tendency that we all do to some extent. It can be normal as long as you only evaluate similarities and differences. Itââ¬â¢s also productive if youââ¬â¢re inspired to emulate anotherââ¬â¢s impressive traits but there are instances that this becomes dysfunctional when it develops envy and jealousy, if a person judges themselves as less fortunate than others, and then there is a greater chance that low self esteem will develop. Another study about social media website and other technology that can have negative effects on the mental health of children and teenagers was conducted by Dr. Larry D. Rosen, a professor of psychology at California State University. In the 119th Annual Convention of the American Psychology Association in Washington D. C. on August 4-7, 2012, he revealed that in his study entitled ââ¬Å"Poke Me: How Social Networks Can both Help and Harm Our Kidsâ⬠, teenagers and young adults who are continuously logged on to Facebook are more often to show psychological disorders, like mania, paranoia, aggressive tendencies, antisocial behavior and increased alcohol use. These teens also more often displayed narcissistic tendencies, which are fed by their ability to constantly broadcast information about themselves through Facebook. This study can closely be related to the researched done by Jeffrey Hancock at Cornell University where some individual uses social media website to boost their self esteem. Dr Larry D. Rosenââ¬â¢s study also revealed that children, pre-teens and teenagers who used Internet and social media websites on a regular basisà have more stomach aches, sleeping problems, anxiety and depression and because of this, they miss school more often. Young adult experience the same effect but instead of missing school, they miss work and often call-out on work. This study can be associated to the study made by Dr. Michael Fenichel, Ph. D. that is named ââ¬Å"Facebook Addiction Disorderâ⬠where based on his clinical study reveals that vast amount of time and energy are spent at work, at home, at school, and now while even on the move, that people are engaging and/or log on to Facebook thus creates the chain of effect. Missing school means missing out on class and school activity that can somehow affect their school performance creating insecurities towards their peer groups that can eventually lead to anxiety and depression. In addition to Dr. Rosenââ¬â¢s study, 48 percent of 18-34-year-olds check Facebook when they wake up and 28 percent before they get out of bed, this habit drives them to lose focus on the workday ahead of them. Since young adults that are so much engage in a social media website spend the most of their time on it, they even do this at work which makes them less productive and missing out on great opportunities to promote themselves at the work place thus again creating insecurities towards their co-workers who are performing better and will eventually lead to low self esteem and depression. Another result to Dr. Rosenââ¬â¢s study was targeted to middle school and high school and not surprisingly, middle school and high school students who logged into Facebook at least once during a 15-minute study session received lower grades. Rosen and his team found that most students were only able to maintain focus on their studies for two or three minutes before distracting themselves with the Web and spend more time on it than their studies. Although social networking sites provides some positive effects to its users, the negative effects of these social networking sites overweigh the positive ones. These sites, according to each and every study that was conducted, have not only caused some negative psychological effect to an individual, but to a group or society itself considering the huge amount of users of a social networking sites. The students and young adults become victims of social networks more often than anyone else. This is because of the reason that when they are studying or searching their course material online or at work, they get attracted to these sites to kill the boredom in their current situation, diverting their attention from their studies and work. http://www. enichel. com/pokeme. shtml http://www. chabad4israel. org/tznius4israel/newdisorder. pdf http://www. psychology. org. au/Assets/Files/Social-and-Psychological-Impact-of-Social-Networking-Sites. pdf http://online. liebertpub. com/doi/abs/10. 1089/1094931041291295? journalCode=cpbamp; http://www. commonsensemedia. org/research/social-media-social-life/key-finding-2%3A-teens-more-likely-to-report-positi ve-impact http://online. liebertpub. com/doi/abs/10. 1089/cyber. 2010. 0377? journalCode=cyberamp; http://www. news. cornell. edu/stories/2011/03/facebook-walls-boost-self-esteem-finds-study
